We Are Daisy Chain

The 'About Us' page.
(But really it's more about you...)

'So...how can
Daisy Chain help me..?'

Let's be honest. That's what you really want - and need - to know.

You want to know who can do what and when... and maybe even, how?

 HERE'S THE TEAM, THEIR ROLES,
HOW THEY FIT INTO OUR DAY NURSERY, AND WHAT THEY DO.

Carole Farrow |  Manager Daisy Chain

Qualification - BA Hons Early years

My story starts over 20 years ago.

After having my two children I felt it was time to start looking to get back into work. My starting point was the local newspaper where I saw a job advertised for a nursery worker. My thoughts were “I'm sure I can sit with some children and do some painting”...famous last words perhaps.

After getting the job, I worked in the baby unit for three years, then experienced other age groups up to school age. I had truly caught the Early Years bug and decided to do a qualification. Soon after an opportunity arose in the village for me to take over the village playgroup, and so, Daisy Chain was born.

Running from the back of a Chapel, we successfully developed the Daisy Chain brand for 9 years. We continued to grow and took over the building adjacent to the local Primary School and children's centre. During this time I completed a BA Hons in Early Years and continued the role of manager overseeing the daily running of the setting.

I thoroughly enjoy the daily challenges the role delivers and take great pride in the Daisy Chain team as we strive for excellence each and every day.

Julie Smith

Deputy Manager and Lead Practitioner for
2-year-olds

Qualification
Level 3 Early years and Childcare

I joined Carole at Daisy Chain in 2004 as bank staff after my youngest child started school.

In 2006 I took a full-time position of Key Person and then Deputy Manager.

During this time I have seen many faces! Each child has their unique way of making me smile. And I enjoy
supporting new starters to settle into the nursery environment and learn new skills.

I have three grown-up children and two grandsons who I love spending time with.

I think a lot of the children at nursery think of me as a Grandma figure as I often get called ‘nanny’. When I am out in the village and meet children with their parent/carer they look at me and say “I want to go play
at Miss Julie's house”.
...(meaning nursery)

I'm sure a lot of children think I live there!

Michelle Jolly

Key Practitioner

Qualification
Level 2 Early years and Childcare

Also known as ‘Shell’, I am married with two daughters and spent my time before early years teaching children to horse ride. People always say to never work with children and animals and I've done both!

Both my daughters came to Daisy Chain before they started primary school so when a job became available, I jumped at the chance as I already knew the staff and loved the nursery ethos.

Jenna Farrow

Assistant Manager / SENDco

Qualification
PGCE Early Years Teacher, MSc Psychology, MBPsS

My journey to Early Years started out some time ago during a break in my art and design degree.

Starting to think that perhaps this wasn't really the thing for me…left wondering if there was something I could do within the community.

I started helping out at Daisy Chain with daily administrative tasks. Little did I know this was only the beginning as something quickly became
very apparent… learning and development in the early years really is something unique.

It didn’t take long for me to jump into the next stage of learning where I became part of the first cohort in Lincolnshire to undertake the post-graduate teacher qualification specialising in the early years.

One thing led to another and before I knew it I was signed up to a Masters in Psychology with a view towards Educational psychology.

This, paired with becoming a mum myself helped me better understand the role of the early years setting within the community.

Children and families need access to a provision that is knowledgeable and committed to providing an adaptive service relative to the unique family situation. This is particularly crucial for working families where time is short and precious.

I believe that the learning we have done and the experience we have here at Daisy Chain benefits you.

What We Are 'About'

01

FLEXIBLE

02

REFLECTIVE

03

INDIVIDUALISED

04

PROGRESSIVE

What do these four points mean in practice?

Much of this comes down to our own learning.

And it's our learning that you and your child benefit from. Because as a result, we believe we may have a unique day nursery offering in Lincolnshire.

It centres on the child/staff/setting level.  We have access to and daily utilise a lot of the resources/research from the psychology qualification gained by our SENCO, Jenna.

And that includes immediate access to 'British Psychological Society' research which is now an integral part of our approach to learning.

We believe we may be the only nursery in the county that has that facility.

This detailed and current knowledge and research at the highest level means we will simply try anything new. It's about helping your child progress and be responsive to their world right now.

And let's be honest. It is after all, exactly what you would expect from us. And rightly so.
